Paula Bailey has written a book that readers of all ages will love. Peaches and the 19 Cobras tells the story of Peaches and Jake that hear about COVID-19 that the dogs mishear as "19 Cobras." Once the coronavirus pandemic worsens and the worldwide quarantine takes place, Peaches and Jake spend unlimited time with their human mother and "protect" her when visitors come to the house with mandatory masks. While their mother tries to distract herself with her numerous Christmas trees and rearranging her house, Peaches and Jake entertain their mother and keep her from being lonely when she can't spend time with her friends. When she is able to see her neighbors, friends, and family again, the dogs are fun companions that welcome the guests and cheer them up during a tumultuous time. Peaches and the 19 Cobras is a sweet relatable story that many readers will enjoy, especially surviving the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic. Bailey captures the anxiety many people felt. However, she balances that worry with the unconditional love and joy Peaches and Jake brought. With the dogs as protagonists, the book offers an objective view of how the pandemic affected people with Peaches and Jake observing how the shutdown affected their mother. Bailey writes about the companionship that Peaches and Jale provided her along with her human friend and housekeeper, Sandra, that helped her survive the social isolation of the quarantine. The pictures in the book of Bailey's family and friends show how important staying connected to people is during a crisis. The pictures of Peaches and Jake, especially the ones of the dogs in masks and costumes, bring levity to such a heavy topic. Peaches and the 19 Cobras would be best for readers who want to read about how people survived the pandemic from five years ago. The book would be great for all readers who want to read about how pets can be the best companions during the most difficult times of our lives. Peaches and the 19 Cobras would be a great book for readers of all ages that want to know more about how to persevere and even have fun during uncertain times. Dogs and pets, in general, typically become such a large part of their owner's lives in ways that may be hard to imagine if you've never had the pleasure of experiencing K-9 companionship yourself. They end up being an extended part of your family and develop a truly special bond which may even feel they are their "canine kids," as author Paula Bailey states in her author's note in Peaches and Jake and 19 Cobras Oh, My!, which is a sequel to her original tale about her rescue dogs and their daily antics. Told through the eyes of Peaches and Jake, we get to learn more about their life while they are on the lookout for the "19 Cobras" as well as the "Delta Very Aunts" aka Covid-19 and the Delta Variants they produce. This is a unique and interesting way for young children to learn about this highly contagious virus and what you can do to keep yourself as safe as possible. Jake and Peaches may know about it through the perspective of a dog's mind but their tips are just as handy, like when they mention hand washing and social distancing within the first few pages of their story. The photos associated with each page makes the readers much more engaged, and it makes it easier to identify the thoughts and feelings of Bailey's beloved rescue dogs through their expressive nature bursting through the photos. They both not only appear to be incredibly sweet and gentle creatures which is confirmed by the author as well. You can see not only their incredible bond with the people in their lives but with each other, too. It feels as though it was kismet that they wound up in each other's lives and that their true goal is to keep themselves, their humans, and even their toys safe from the "19 Cobras". This is a fast-paced and fun read for young readers ages 5-8 and will make storytime with their parents even more exciting with the associated pictures on each page of the adorable Jake and Peaches. Their bond emanates throughout this book and the fact they will go above and beyond to help in the fight against the "19 Cobras" and the "Delta Very Aunts" which is truly admirable. This is certainly an informational story with a fun twist that will be perfect for those who know the love of a dog. For those who don't, this will definitely make you want to learn this love sooner rather than later. With teamwork, clever thinking, and a bit of backyard bravery, Peaches and Jake show that even the scariest situations can be handled with a little help from your best friend. Pick up this story to read to the little ones in your life and help keep them safe in the process from any dangerous viruses lurking around the corner - Peaches and Jake and 19 Cobras Oh, My" by Paula Bailey is not one to miss!

Peaches. The best part of the day is celebrating with their human mom Paula, who ensures they have the best holiday ever by providing them with love and cheer. The story is aimed at children ages three to seven with real photography and a genuine tale about how important friendship is. These themes make the story perfect for children to share with their families at any time of the year. This charming picture book is a real story about Author Paula Bailey's rescue dogs Peaches and Jake, with events taking place in 2018. The structure pairs short paragraphs with photographs, which gives the story a quick flow that can easily maintain children's attention. This gives the story a reflective quality as the writing gives you the impression of Bailey looking back with fondness at this memory. There is a lot of love felt between her and the two dogs, which is aided by the use of real photographs. This choice for visuals supports the real aspects of the story by giving it an aesthetic of a family album and making it feel more personal. Despite focusing on a specific holiday, this sweet memory is good for any time of the year as it carries themes of friendship and family. These themes are easy for children to comprehend through simple details that make them easily distinct from each other. The real story aspect is further established by the inclusion of photography that takes you back to this family moment and allows you to connect with Peaches and Jake. The story does a great job of engaging children with the characters through vibrant personalities that make the two dogs easily distinguishable. Bailey uses short and subtle details to do this with photographs, adding supporting visuals for children to see these personalities. For example, Peaches has to encourage Jake, who is too lazy to get out of bed, to go see what presents they received. These details will help children to understand character differences as Bailey cleverly uses the choice of toy as lovely and humorous representations of their personalities. Through this, you can feel the love that Bailey has for them as she insists that Moosie is just 'losing weight' when she finds stuffing. Moments such as this will be touching for adults reading with their children, while younger readers will find them funny. These are moments that express a genuine family dynamic and put heart into the story. Friendship is an important aspect of the story with Jake loving Moosie even when it's merely a 'shell,' which is an endearing message that children can apply to their dynamics with others and touches upon how many have favorite toys. There is a lightheartedness that is ideal for a picture book with the dogs behaving as dogs typically do - destroying and playing with toys. This is where the primary humor that Bailey incorporates stems from, such as Peaches not knowing what to do with her toy. These moments are delightfully paired with photographs so you can see for yourself their actions and expressions. This humor ensures that the tone stays wholesome and charming throughout, making it a feel-good story that will bring smiles to the whole family and create something entirely genuine to enjoy. Peaches and Jake Celebrate Christmas is a charming children's book that incorporates real photos, Christmas, and two adorable dogs in a heartwarming story about friendship and family.

"Mommy would put a mask on us, turn around to get the camera, and by the time she turned back, we had our masks off and were sitting there smiling and looking innocent." In 2020, as a global pandemic gripped the world, daily life became marked by social distancing, mask-wearing, and quarantines. Bailey's two rescue dogs, Peaches and Jake, were understandably confused mishearing the oft-repeated "Covid-19" as something to do with "nineteen cobras," The two pooches' hilarious antics and playfully mischievous adventures of the time are collected here for the general reader's enjoyment. Adorable photographs document the household canine shenanigans. Peaches' older brother Jake, the "man of the house," is extremely protective, guarding their Florida home from the unfathomable "cobras." However, there is much to be said for lighthearted distraction, and clowning around becomes routine as Peaches and Jake have fun with the matching masks adorned with jewels and sparkles, which Bailey handcrafted for them. The trio celebrates Peaches' seventh birthday, showcases photographs (and stories) of their home's impressive Christmas tree collection, undertakes remodeling projects, and introduces numerous real-life friends, neighbors, and extended family members. They travel, RV-style, to their summer cottage in Maine, create "Special Angel" keepsakes for first responders and caregivers, and much more. Bailey's writing style, narrated from Peaches' perspective, is down-home casual, full of frolic, and just plain fun. This makes for an incredibly joyful read, featuring a heartwarming collection of true-life stories from the pandemic era. The author's natural knack for storytelling is enhanced through the inclusion of a diverse range of engaging photographs. From gorgeous flower gardens surrounding the Maine cottage to images of a "lobster feast" for family and a Hawaiian Luau with friends to numerous shots of the playful pooches themselves, readers are treated to a visually delightful celebration. Laughter and fun are essential to the trio's lives, along with a healthy dose of helping others. And, it happens, this, too, sums up well the spirit of this unique picture book.

"Hopefully, sometime soon, the virus will be gone and almost everyone will be vaccinated; and we won't have to wear masks and do social distancing any more. But that time isn't here yet..." Peaches and her big brother Jake are a couple of adorable rescue dogs with adventurous spirits and a penchant for mischief. In this sequel to Peaches and the 19 Cobras, these two fur babies continue their mission to educate readers about the dangers of the 19 cobras (COVID-19) and the subsequent "Delta Very Aunts" (Delta variant), as well as the need for precautions such as handwashing, wearing masks, social distancing, and vaccinations. However, Peaches' and Jake's dedication to public health in no way impedes their determination to have fun. Adventures like opening the bedroom door and helping Mommy bring in the mail earn them treats. But naughty behavior, like ripping apart a stuffed animal, lands them in doggie jail, where they plan a risky escape. Some of their most fun escapades include getting behind the wheel of Mommy's RV and fooling humans into thinking that Jake is driving. Bailey uses personification, whimsical anecdotes about her dogs, and clever wordplay to educate young readers and diffuse some of the fear, stress, and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. Writing from the perspective of female pup Peaches, who is clearly a diva, Bailey injects humor and levity into a stressful time in world history. Readers will laugh at Peaches' meltdown over mismatched hair bows, Jake's antics behind the wheel of the RV, and Peaches' manipulative use of her puppy eyes to get permission to lick an old pan. Bailey accurately depicts the precocious nature of man's best friend. Children and dog lovers of all ages will enjoy the cute photos of Peaches and Jake, as well as Bailey's delightful accounts of life with her canine companions.

"After a while, Mommy called them into the living room to show them the toys that Santa had left for each of them." Jake and Peaches, two lovable dogs, get woken up on Christmas morning by their Mommy to see the gifts that Santa Claus has left for them. They each receive a big bone treat, with Peaches taking a cue from her older brother, Jake, on how to chow down on it. The biggest gifts of all are a plush moose and fox. Jake instantly claims the moose, but Peaches is less certain about what to do with her new fox toy. However, with help from her Mommy, Peaches learns that Foxie makes a wonderful sleeping companion. After her nap, Peaches joins Jake in playing with Moosie, and before the day is done, the plushie has already started to fall apart from their fun. It does not take long for Moosie to become more like fragments of fabric, but Jake still enjoys the toy. Foxie, however, remains fully intact to this day. Some stories shine because of their homemade quality. This tale of two dogs on Christmas morning is one such tale. Photographs found on every page illustrate Jake and Peaches celebrating the occasion, munching on bones, and exploring their toys. It is also very clear that they, alongside their mommy, are one big happy family. The wholesomeness exuded by the whole occasion is a joy to read, especially for dog lovers. Further, Jake and Peaches' distinct personalities are on full display from the first page, with Peaches being a younger sibling who trusts the judgment of her older brother and mommy when navigating unfamiliar situations. Another admirable thing is that even though Moosie is basically deflated by the end, he is not just discarded. He continues to be a source of entertainment for Jake, whatever the form. Overall, this story is a fun, quiet romp with two dogs who fully appreciate their blessings.

Peaches and the 19 Cobras tells the story of Peaches and Jake, two sweet rescue dogs who misunderstand COVID-19 as "19 cobras" and spend the pandemic doing everything they can to protect their mom. The book moves through their daily adventures from quarantine in Florida to summers in Maine. There are masks and costumes, funny misunderstandings, shiny Christmas trees, and a whole lot of love. The dogs tell the story in their own voices, so the whole thing feels warm and comforting. As I read it, I kept catching myself smiling. The writing feels like someone chatting with me in their kitchen. It's simple in a good way and full of genuine emotion. The idea of hearing the pandemic through the ears of two confused and devoted dogs was surprisingly emotional. It reminded me of how strange that time was and how pets kind of carried so many of us through it. Some moments even made my eyes sting a little because the mix of humor and fear from that year still sits in my chest. Seeing the dogs try to make sense of everything made the whole memory softer for me. I also loved how the book leans into joy. There are photos everywhere, and they're adorable. The stories jump from masks that never stay on to gigantic Christmas trees to lobster dinners in Maine. It felt chaotic in a charming way. Like watching someone you love tell a story while getting distracted every few sentences. I honestly laughed out loud when the dogs kept ditching their masks or when Peaches tried to look fierce with her tiny warrior stance. The whole thing just felt honest. Not polished in a stiff way. More like real life with all the messiness and sweetness mixed together. Peaches and the 19 Cobras is great for kids who want a gentle way to understand a heavy moment in history and for adults who want a soft, funny reminder of how we made it through. Anyone who loves animals or who leaned on a pet during the pandemic will feel this one. It's light and goofy and unexpectedly touching. I'd happily pass it along to families, teachers, grandparents, and anyone who just needs a picture book that feels kind.

Peaches and Jake and 19 Cobras Oh, My! continues the adventures of the two rescue pups as they try to make sense of the "19 Cobras" and the sneaky "Delta Very Aunts." The story follows their daily life with Mommy while they travel in the RV, watch the house, get into trouble, break out of “jail," help with chores, and try their absolute best to keep everyone safe. The book mixes playful photos with Peaches's voice as she explains what she and Jake think is happening in the human world, especially with the pandemic. The whole thing feels like a scrapbook full of goofy snapshots and heartfelt moments. This children's book made me laugh way more than I expected. The humor sneaks up on you, like Peaches rolling her eyes on page 14 or Jake claiming he is "checking his eyelids for light leaks". I kept cracking up at the jail scenes. The photo where Jake is literally smiling behind the glass while Peaches looks betrayed nearly had me wheezing. Their personalities shine through the pictures, which makes everything feel so real. The pandemic themes hit me in a weird but comforting way. It softens something that has felt heavy for years. Seeing it through two dogs who are earnest and clumsy and trying so hard gave the whole topic a gentleness I didn't know I needed. There were also moments that made me feel unexpectedly touched. Peaches worrying about Dolly. Jake teaching her things. The RV pretend driving scenes, especially the one where they trick people into thinking Jake is behind the wheel. It all feels like watching two little kids play make-believe, and it tugged at my chest. The author's affection for them pours out of every page, and I felt wrapped up in that warmth. I love how the story jumps from serious things like vaccines to goofy fashion dilemmas. It mirrors how real life is, mixed and messy and sweet. I think Peaches and Jake and 19 Cobras Oh My! is perfect for kids who need a lighthearted way to understand scary topics and for adults who want something that brings back a sense of comfort. It's great for dog lovers, families, teachers, and anyone who just needs to smile. This picture book is playful, loving, and full of personality.

Peaches and Jake Celebrate Christmas is a sweet little story about two rescue pups waking up on Christmas morning to discover the surprises Santa left them under the tree. They each get giant bones and then two toys, a moose for Jake and a fox for Peaches, and the rest of the day unfolds with the dogs learning what to do with their gifts. Jake destroys his moose with pure joy, Peaches figures out that Foxie makes a perfect nap buddy, and their mom watches over the whole thing with so much love. It feels like flipping through a family photo album where every picture tells its own tiny story. There is a softness to the writing that feels like someone talking to me from their couch with their dogs at their feet. The real photos of Peaches and Jake add charm because they are so expressive. I kept giggling at Peaches trying to figure out Foxie. And the whole saga of Moosie slowly losing limbs and stuffing had me cracking up. There is something sweet about how Jake loves that toy even when it becomes a little fabric scrap. It says a lot about how dogs attach meaning to things and how we do the same sometimes without even realizing it. I also liked how the book shows the two dogs having such different personalities. Jake barrels into Christmas like it is the best day of the year. Peaches moves carefully and watches everyone else first. It reminded me of how different pets can be, even when they grow up in the same home. The photos on almost every page make it easy to stay engaged. Honestly, it felt a little like being invited into the author's living room to watch a memory replay itself. I think this picture book is perfect for young kids who like animals and for grown-ups who just want something soft and happy to read. It is especially lovely for dog lovers or anyone who enjoys holiday stories that feel real and cozy. If you want a children's book that brings a smile without trying too hard, this one is a great choice. It is playful, sweet, and full of genuine affection, and that makes it a wonderful holiday read for families.
